It’s important to always dress smartly when attending court. Dress pants, collared shirts and a suit jacket are common for men while women can wear a shirt and suit jacket with dress pants or a skirt.

Barrister gowns are only used in Criminal Courts in the UK. Solicitor gowns are only suitable for England and Wales.
Judges and barristers wear slightly different gowns to court. Barrister gowns have a flap hanging from the left shoulder while judge gowns can differ based on the Court they’re presiding over.
