Legal Wigs F.A.Q

Do female barristers wear wigs? +

Yes both Male and Female Barristers wear wigs if they are working on criminal cases. If working on other cases, the Barristers wig will not be required.

What materials are legal wigs made from? +

Traditional Legal Wigs are made using Horse tail hair. Currently, though, manufacturers are making inroads into producing legal wigs from synthetic fibres to create a more humane process for the modern courtrooms.

What are the different types of Legal Wigs? +

There are three different types of legal wigs; The Barristers Wig, The Judge's Bench Wig and The Judges Full Bottomed Wig.

How do I know my Wig Size? +

Place a measuring tape around your head, one inch (25mm) above your eyebrows then down to the top of your ear. Do not pull the tape too tight to allow a slight bit of space around your head for fit. If it is possible to do so, ask someone to measure for you. If you are on the border between sizes, we recommend going for the larger size.
